Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmöller has warned that Galatasaray remain a serious attacking threat even without Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
Frankfurt will host the Turkish Super Lig champions in their UEFA Champions League opening fixture at the Deutsche Bank Park on Thursday.
Osimhen Ruled Out
Osimhen, who is still recovering from an injury sustained on international duty two weeks ago, was left out of Galatasaray’s 23-man squad for the game. The 26-year-old’s absence is a blow for the Turkish side, but Toppmöller believes they still possess quality up front.
Icardi Ready to Step In
The German coach pointed to Argentine striker Mauro Icardi as a proven replacement.
“We’ll see tomorrow if Osimhen plays. There’s no question he brings his quality. If not, Icardi would play, who has also proven many times that he can score goals,” Toppmöller told reporters.
He added:
“In the end, it doesn’t matter who starts up front; both have tremendous quality, but of course, their game is different.”
Frankfurt will need to be cautious against a Galatasaray side that boasts attacking firepower, regardless of Osimhen’s absence.
