Never a Good Time to Face Man Utd – Maresca as Chelsea Eye Rare Old Trafford Win

Chelsea vs Manchester United Old Trafford

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca admits his side face a tough task at Old Trafford on Saturday, despite Manchester United’s poor start to the season.

The Blues have not beaten United away in the Premier League since Juan Mata’s dramatic winner back in May 2013. The fixture has also produced more draws than any other in Premier League history, with 27 stalemates.

Chelsea’s Unbeaten Start vs United’s Struggles

Chelsea currently sit fifth in the league and are unbeaten in their opening four matches. Meanwhile, United find themselves down in 14th with just one victory so far, coming off the back of a 3-0 derby defeat last weekend.

But Maresca insists United remain a dangerous opponent:

“It’s always difficult to play United away at Old Trafford. Now is not the right moment, next year or last year, it’s always difficult,” the Chelsea manager said.

He added that even in their heavy defeats, United had shown quality and could pose a real threat in front of their home fans.

Garnacho Ready for Big Role

One Chelsea player with deep ties to Old Trafford is Alejandro Garnacho. Signed for £40 million in the summer, the Argentine winger is pushing for his first start after two strong substitute appearances.

“In the last two games, he was very good when he came on. We’re happy with the way he’s adapting to our style. I think he is ready to start,” Maresca confirmed.

Garnacho, who left United under controversial circumstances, will need to handle the pressure if faced with a hostile reception from the home crowd.

Palmer Fit Despite Injury Concern

There was also good news for Chelsea as Cole Palmer is expected to feature, despite concerns after he appeared to tweak his groin during Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

“Cole is okay. We have a session now… we need to assess some players, but he should be fine,” Maresca said.

Key Fact

Chelsea last won at Old Trafford in 2013.

The fixture has produced 27 draws, the most in Premier League history.

Garnacho could make his first Chelsea start against his former club.

United have lost three of their first five league games under Ruben Amorim.

With history against them, Chelsea will need to be at their very best if they are to finally end their 12-year drought at Old Trafford.
