Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed why his side fell to a 3-1 defeat against Brighton in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.
Goals from Danny Welbeck and Maxim De Cuyper powered the Seagulls to victory, while Enzo Fernandez pulled one back for Chelsea. However, the Blues’ chances were further damaged when Trevoh Chalobah was shown a red card early in the second half.
Speaking after the game, Maresca admitted that his team’s collapse came as a result of losing control once Chalobah was dismissed.
“In the first half, we were in control, creating chances and not conceding anything. But in the second half, after five or six minutes, because of our mistake, we were down to 10 players and unfortunately the game changed,” Maresca told reporters.
Chelsea will now turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League, where they face Benfica on Tuesday night.
