Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has cast doubt over the availability of centre-back Gabriel for the upcoming Premier League fixture against West Ham.
The Brazilian was substituted late in Arsenal’s midweek win after a collision with goalkeeper David Raya. Arteta revealed that Gabriel felt something in the first half — possibly a knock — that made him uncomfortable as the match progressed.
While the injury doesn’t appear to be serious, the coach emphasised that Arsenal will take no risks given Gabriel’s recent fitness history and heavy involvement in matches. “We have to wait and see until after training, but we weren’t too concerned about him,” Arteta said.
If Gabriel is ruled out, Cristhian Mosquera is expected to be a candidate to start in his place. Meanwhile, summer signing Piero Hincapié, who has missed the past four games with injury, is still not ready for a return.
