Napoli are reportedly preparing a move for Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo, as the Serie A champions continue their trend of signing out-of-favour players from Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old midfielder has seen limited game time under United boss Rúben Amorim, making just four Premier League appearances this season — all from the bench — and totalling just 200 minutes across all competitions.
Napoli Monitoring Mainoo Situation Closely
According to reports from Sky Sports Switzerland, Napoli have already made contact with Mainoo’s representatives as they explore a loan move in the upcoming January transfer window.
The Italian side, managed by Antonio Conte, reportedly believe Mainoo could flourish in Serie A and want to “continue his progression in a competitive environment” by offering him more consistent minutes.
Napoli’s Growing Manchester United Connection
If the move materializes, Mainoo would become the third Manchester United player to join Napoli in recent seasons.
The club already has Rasmus Højlund on loan from United and Scott McTominay, who played a crucial role in Napoli’s title-winning campaign last season. Conte has been vocal about his admiration for Premier League talent, and Mainoo’s technical ability and composure on the ball fit perfectly with his tactical approach.
Mainoo Considering His Future at Old Trafford
Sources close to the player suggest Mainoo could request a move if his playing time doesn’t improve before January.
The England international, once hailed as one of United’s brightest academy graduates, is reportedly frustrated by his lack of opportunities under Amorim — a situation that has caught the attention of Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
With Napoli in the Serie A title race, the chance to play regular football in a competitive environment could be the perfect step in Mainoo’s development.
