Thomas Tuchel’s Relationship With Jude Bellingham Could Shape England’s World Cup Hopes

How Thomas Tuchel manages his relationship with Jude Bellingham could define his time as England head coach and determine how far the Three Lions go at next summer’s World Cup.

Despite Tuchel insisting there is no issue between them, questions persist about Bellingham’s role, his chemistry with teammates, and the overall squad atmosphere when he is absent.

Bellingham, known for his perfectionism and high standards, famously clashed with former manager Gareth Southgate during the Euro 2024 final in Berlin. Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has also highlighted the difference in England’s camp when the Real Madrid star is around, describing him as “a big presence.”

The 22-year-old has already played 282 club games and earned 44 international caps — remarkable for his age. After a shoulder operation and limited recent minutes for Real Madrid, Tuchel opted to leave him out of England’s October squad, citing loyalty to the group that defeated Serbia 5-0 last month.

That decision, however, appears to contradict Tuchel’s desire to build chemistry and familiarity within the squad ahead of the World Cup. He previously invited injured defender John Stones to join a camp simply to bond with the team — yet extended no such invitation to Bellingham, who is fully fit.

Tuchel and Bellingham have not met face-to-face since the manager’s controversial summer comments, when he admitted his mother was “repulsed” by the midfielder’s on-field demeanor. Tuchel has since apologized, but speculation about their relationship continues.

The England boss maintains that he and Bellingham have mutual respect. Still, his decision to omit one of England’s brightest talents has sparked debate among fans and pundits alike — and how he handles this dynamic could make or break his tenure as England’s manager.
