Chelsea may be facing a fresh injury concern after one of Enzo Maresca’s key players was withdrawn from international duty with a knee problem.
The Blues entered the international break full of confidence following their dramatic 2-1 win over Liverpool last weekend. However, injuries have already affected Maresca’s squad heavily this season, and the manager was hoping to avoid further setbacks during the break.
Several players, including Cole Palmer, Liam Delap, Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana and Andrey Santos, were already unavailable before the international schedule began. Levi Colwill is also expected to miss most of the season due to an ACL injury, while captain Reece James recently pulled out of the England squad with a knock.
Argentina have now confirmed that Enzo Fernandez has withdrawn from their national team squad due to synovitis in his right knee.
Synovitis is an inflammation of the joint lining and recovery time can range from a few days to several weeks, depending on the severity.
Chelsea will be hoping the issue is minor, with a busy run of fixtures ahead as domestic action resumes.
