Enzo Fernandez withdraws from Argentina squad with knee injury

Enzo Fernandez has withdrawn from the Argentina squad after sustaining a knee issue during international duty.

The Chelsea midfielder featured for 78 minutes in Argentina’s 1-0 friendly win against Venezuela but will miss their upcoming game against Puerto Rico.

Fernandez has been a key figure for Chelsea this season, starting every match including the EFL Cup clash against League One side Lincoln City. The 24-year-old has registered three goals and one assist in seven Premier League appearances, although he is still looking to make an impact in the Champions League.

The Argentine FA confirmed that Fernandez has been ruled out of the squad due to synovitis in his right knee, a condition involving inflammation in the joint lining.

Chelsea return to action after the international break with a trip to Nottingham Forest, followed by home games against Ajax and Sunderland. Fernandez will be hoping to recover in time to feature in those fixtures.
