Scott Brown Sent Off in Charity Match After Furious Reaction to Penalty Decision

Former Celtic captain Scott Brown may have retired three years ago, but his fiery competitive spirit is clearly still alive.

The Celtic legend was involved in a dramatic moment during a charity match between Celtic Legends and Feyenoord Legends in the Wim Jansen Cup in Rotterdam.

With the score at 2-1 to Feyenoord late in the game, Brown made a tackle in the 87th minute, which the referee judged to be a foul worthy of a penalty. Replays appeared to show that Brown got a touch on the ball, but the decision stood.

‘Ref Cam’ footage captured Brown storming towards the referee, angrily protesting the call. His outburst earned him a straight red card, an extremely rare sight in a friendly charity game. As he walked off the pitch, the referee cheekily waved him off, adding to the drama.

Despite the incident, Dirk Kuyt failed to convert the penalty, and the match ended 2-1. Goals for the Dutch side came from Graziano Pellè and Diego Biseswar, while Charlie Mulgrew scored Celtic’s only goal.

Brown, known for his intense playing style, was sent off eight times during his professional career and spent 14 trophy-filled years at Celtic before moving into management. He is currently head coach at Ayr United.
