Chelsea Set to Challenge Manchester City in Race to Sign £35m England Midfielder Elliot Anderson

Chelsea are preparing to compete with Manchester City for the signing of Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson as interest intensifies in the England international.

The 22-year-old midfielder has rapidly emerged as one of the Premier League’s standout young talents since joining Forest from Newcastle in a £35 million deal. His impressive performances earned him a first senior England call-up in August, and he has since become a regular presence in Thomas Tuchel’s national team setup.

Manchester City are reportedly leading the pursuit, with Pep Guardiola identifying Anderson as a priority target as he looks to reshape his midfield options. With doubts surrounding Rodri’s long-term future and Nico Gonzalez failing to make the expected impact, City see Anderson as an ideal addition.

However, Chelsea are expected to offer strong competition. The club’s hierarchy is keen on adding another dynamic midfielder to support Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, both considered untouchable under Enzo Maresca. Anderson would likely contest the third midfield slot should a move to Stamford Bridge materialise.

Despite adding several attacking options in the summer, Chelsea only made one midfield signing in Dario Essugo, who is yet to feature due to injury. That opens the door for a move in January or next summer as the Blues continue their squad rebuild.

Anderson, currently under contract with Nottingham Forest until 2029, will have another chance to showcase his talent when Forest take on Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend. Forest are struggling near the relegation zone, adding further uncertainty around their ability to keep hold of their star midfielder.
