Lionel Messi has officially signed a new contract with Inter Miami, extending his stay at the MLS club until 2028, the league confirmed today.
Since joining the club in July 2023, Messi has completely transformed Inter Miami into one of the most talked-about teams in world football — both on and off the pitch.
The Argentine legend delivered a sensational 48 goal contributions (goals + assists) in just 28 regular-season appearances in 2025 — the second-highest single-season total in MLS history. Even more impressively, he was directly involved in three or more goals in nine different matches, setting another league record.
This year alone, Messi claimed the MLS Player of the Month award in May, July, and October, marking his third of the season and fifth overall in his MLS career. He now becomes the first player in league history to win five Player of the Month awards within two years.
Messi also joins an elite list of stars — Carlos Vela (2019) and Chris Wondolowski (2012) — as the only players ever to win three Player of the Month titles in a single season.
With his contract now running through 2028, Miami fans can look forward to several more years of Messi magic as he continues to rewrite the history books in the United States.
