Owner Dejphon Chansiri’s turbulent decade-long reign came to an end on Friday morning when he signed papers officially placing the club into administration — a decision that effectively seals the Owls’ relegation from the Championship.
Administrators Begbies Traynor have already begun work at Hillsborough and believe a takeover could be completed before Christmas, with at least four interested parties expressing firm interest in buying the club.
One administrator told SunSport: “It was a very positive meeting and finally we have something to be optimistic about after months of not being paid on time and fearing for our jobs.”
The EFL’s 12-point penalty leaves Wednesday rooted to the bottom of the table, making survival in the Championship almost impossible.
Fans, who have staged numerous protests against Chansiri in recent months, are now hoping new ownership can bring stability and restore the club’s fortunes after years of mismanagement.
