Bruno Fernandes’ £57m Release Clause Could Spark Manchester United Exit Next Summer

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes could be set for a sensational exit from Old Trafford next summer, with reports revealing that his contract includes a £57 million release clause — but there’s a major twist.

According to sources, the clause can only be activated by clubs outside the Premier League, meaning Fernandes cannot join another English side under that term.

The 31-year-old midfielder, who has been one of United’s most consistent performers in recent seasons, reportedly turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi giants Al-Hilal earlier this year. Despite the tempting deal, Fernandes chose to remain in England, insisting that he still has unfinished business with the Red Devils.

“As I’ve always said, I feel good here,” Fernandes explained.
“I want to achieve my dreams still. I’ve seen a lot of news saying I already had an agreement to go next season, but if the club has done that, it wasn’t made with me.”

He went on to reveal that his wife played a key role in his decision to stay:

“The first question she asked was, ‘Have you achieved everything you wanted to at the club?’ Because she knows that I haven’t. That made me realise I still have more to give here.”

Despite ongoing interest from abroad — including renewed attention from the Saudi Pro League, where stars like Neymar and Benzema have already moved — Fernandes remains focused on Manchester United’s ambitions.

The Portuguese star has scored two goals and registered one assist in nine appearances so far this season. United currently sit ninth in the Premier League table with 13 points from eight games.

Whether Fernandes stays to lead United’s rebuild or decides to seek a new challenge overseas next summer, his future will be one of the biggest stories to watch in 2026.
