Liverpool’s Premier League crisis deepened after a chaotic 3–2 defeat to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium — marking their fourth consecutive league loss under Arne Slot.
The Reds were outmuscled and outplayed for most of the night as Dango Ouattara and Kevin Schade punished Liverpool’s sloppy defending in a first-half horror show.
Even Milos Kerkez’s goal deep into added time before the break failed to inspire a comeback, as Igor Thiago converted a second-half penalty to restore Brentford’s two-goal cushion.
Mohamed Salah did pull one back late on with a thunderous volley, ending his six-game Premier League goal drought, but the damage had already been done.
Bees Sting Early
Brentford made a dream start just five minutes in when Michael Kayode’s long throw was flicked on by Kristoffer Ajer, allowing Ouattara to sneak past Milos Kerkez and finish coolly.
The goal highlighted Liverpool’s ongoing struggles from set pieces — it was the sixth time this season they’ve conceded from a throw-in situation.
Schade Doubles the Lead
Before halftime, Mikkel Damsgaard split Liverpool’s defence with a pinpoint pass that found Schade, who raced past Ibrahima Konaté and fired home to make it 2–0.
Liverpool responded through Kerkez in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time — though only three were indicated — after good work from Cody Gakpo and Conor Bradley.
VAR Drama and Thiago’s Penalty
Brentford’s third came via VAR intervention after Virgil van Dijk clipped Ouattara right on the line of the 18-yard box. Substitute referee Tim Robinson awarded the penalty following a review, and Igor Thiago made no mistake from the spot.
Salah’s Late Strike Not Enough
Just as Brentford looked home and dry, Salah smashed in a spectacular left-footed volley off the bar to make it 3–2 — his first league goal since August.
However, despite eleven minutes of added time and a nervy finish, the Bees held on for a memorable victory.
Slot’s Struggles Continue
This defeat means Liverpool have now lost four Premier League games in a row for the first time since February 2021. They have also conceded 21 goals in all competitions already this season.
As Brentford fans chanted “You’re getting sacked in the morning,” Slot could only stand on the touchline, hands on hips — a picture of frustration as his title hopes begin to unravel.
