Gary Neville Hails Ruben Amorim’s ‘Best Week’ as Man Utd Leapfrog Liverpool After Slot’s ‘Worst Display’

Ruben Amorim enjoyed his finest week yet as Manchester United boss — while Liverpool’s Arne Slot endured his worst spell since taking charge at Anfield.

United’s 4–2 win over Brighton made it three straight Premier League victories, lifting them above Liverpool and into fourth place. The result followed last weekend’s stunning 2–1 triumph at Anfield, capping off what Gary Neville described as Amorim’s “best and most important week in the job.”

Neville said:

“The narrative coming into this game was that Manchester United couldn’t take a step back after what happened at Anfield last week, and the win today was absolutely crucial.

I think it has been Ruben Amorim’s best and most important week in the job. It gives him a bit of time and takes a lot of pressure off.”

Liverpool in Crisis

While United are finding form, Liverpool’s struggles continue, with Slot’s men suffering a fourth straight league defeat — this time a 3–2 loss to Brentford.

The Dutchman admitted it was his side’s poorest performance yet:

“I think it is up there, yeah. In my time here, in terms of losing a game, this was far from what we are used to. We did not do the basics right.”

Slot conceded that opponents have now found a formula to hurt his team:

“Teams know which strategy to play against us — long balls, set-pieces, duels. We have not found an answer yet.”

Amorim’s Belief Restored

Neville also praised how Amorim has reconnected the squad with his 3-4-3 system:

“A few weeks ago, I worried the players didn’t believe in Ruben Amorim’s system. But one thing that’s been clear — they really like him as a person and want to play for him.

Winning at Anfield was special and it’s given them a big lift. The momentum feels different now — the spirit is good.”

With Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes leading the charge, United now look revitalised and united under Amorim’s leadership.

Next up: a home clash with Nottingham Forest, followed by a tough trip to Tottenham — two more tests that could define their season’s momentum.
