PSG Ligue 1 Opener: Vitinha Strike Secures 1-0 Win at Nantes

PSG Ligue 1 opener Vitinha goal

In their PSG Ligue 1 opener, Paris Saint-Germain claimed a 1-0 win at Nantes thanks to a deflected strike from Vitinha.

The Portuguese midfielder’s effort in the second half found the back of the net after a deflection off Chidozie Awaziem, giving PSG the winning edge.

Coach Luis Enrique made seven changes to his side following the UEFA Super Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur, yet the European champions still showed enough quality to secure all three points against a determined Nantes team, led by new coach Luis Castro.

New signings featured prominently, including Illia Zabarnyi, who played the full 90 minutes after his reported €66 million transfer from Bournemouth, and goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, taking over from Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The decisive goal came from a team move: Ousmane Dembele played a short corner to Nuno Mendes, whose square pass allowed Vitinha to fire PSG ahead in the 67th minute. PSG had other chances, with Goncalo Ramos hitting the bar and Bradley Barcola narrowly missing late on.

Fans will be eager to see PSG continue their strong start when they host Angers next.

Elsewhere in Ligue 1, Olivier Giroud scored for Lille in a 3-3 draw at Brest, while Monaco, Strasbourg, Auxerre, and Angers all claimed victories in the opening fixtures.
