Marc Guehi has withdrawn from Crystal Palace’s squad for their Premier League clash against Sunderland as he edges closer to a £20 million transfer to Manchester City. The fee is notably lower than the £40 million previously expected.
The England defender, 25, has reportedly been offered a contract with City running until 2031. Injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias have left Manchester City short in defense, prompting Pep Guardiola to act quickly and secure Guehi mid-season.
Outgoing Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner confirmed that the deal is in its final stages. He said the club is aware of the situation and is prepared to cope with the captain’s exit. Glasner also reassured the dressing room, highlighting that Palace has continued to perform strongly even after the departure of key players like Michael Olise.
Guehi, a former Chelsea player, has made 188 appearances for Palace, captained the team, and played a pivotal role in their FA Cup and Community Shield victories. Liverpool and Real Madrid were expected to chase the England international in the summer, but City’s mid-season urgency accelerated the move.
This transfer will mark Manchester City’s second major signing of the January window, following the £62.5 million capture of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. With Guehi on board, City aims to close the six-point gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal.
