January Transfer Round-Up: Sterling in Talks with Seven Clubs as Mateta, Lookman and Zinchenko Dominate Deadline Buzz

The January transfer window continues to gather pace with several major moves and negotiations unfolding across Europe as clubs race to finalise their business before the deadline.

Raheem Sterling is one of the biggest names in the spotlight after reports emerged that the England winger is in discussions with as many as seven Champions League clubs following his departure from Chelsea earlier this week. A move abroad now appears increasingly likely as interest grows from multiple European giants.

Crystal Palace are also at the centre of significant transfer activity. AC Milan are pushing to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta, with discussions ongoing over whether a deal will be completed this month or delayed until the summer. Palace, meanwhile, are weighing up a move for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, though their proposed £50 million package has hit complications and remains uncertain.

Elsewhere, Ademola Lookman could be on the move from Atalanta, with Atletico Madrid and Fenerbahce both keen on the Nigerian forward. Reports from Italy suggest offers of up to €35 million are being prepared, although Atalanta are holding out for closer to €40 million including bonuses.

Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko is closing in on a switch to Ajax, with the Dutch side agreeing a €1.5 million deal plus add-ons. The Ukrainian international is expected to complete the move imminently.

In the Premier League, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is still searching for an additional wide player before the window shuts, while Brighton have rejected Nottingham Forest’s £20 million bid for midfielder Yasin Ayari, insisting he remains part of their plans.

Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick has refused to rule out late transfer activity despite a strong start to his tenure, while Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has remained tight-lipped on whether the Reds will make any deadline-day additions.

Scotland has also seen movement, with Hibernian set to receive up to £7 million for striker Kieron Bowie, who is travelling to Italy to complete a move to Hellas Verona.

As deadline day approaches, several deals remain finely balanced, with clubs across England and Europe still negotiating exits, loans and last-minute reinforcements that could shape the second half of the season.
