Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou reportedly fears he could be sacked if his team loses to Newcastle United, just 24 days after taking charge at the City Ground.
The former Tottenham Hotspur boss is still searching for his first win since replacing Nuno Espirito Santo, and pressure is mounting following a 3-2 home defeat to Midtjylland in the Europa League.
Forest’s Poor Start Raises Tension
Postecoglou has endured a nightmare start to his Forest tenure, becoming the first manager in 100 years at the club to fail to win any of his opening six matches.
The club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, was visibly furious after Thursday night’s defeat, as frustrated fans booed the team’s performance and called for the Australian’s dismissal.
Forest’s dismal September run — with defeats to Arsenal, Swansea, and Sunderland — has further intensified the pressure.
Second Sacking in Four Months Looms
According to reports, Postecoglou believes he could face the second sacking in four months, having been dismissed by Spurs in June despite leading them to Europa League glory.
Marinakis appointed him in September following a fallout with Nuno, but the owner is already said to be considering another managerial change if the team fails to get a result against Newcastle this weekend.
Postecoglou Stays Defiant
Despite growing speculation, Postecoglou remains calm and confident.
“I get it — it’s a valid assumption in modern football that there’s always a manager under pressure,” he told reporters.
“I don’t think that way. I knew I was getting sacked at Tottenham months before I did, but it didn’t stop me from winning something.
“If I start worrying about what’s next, I’m not doing my job. The things I control are training and how we play — and I believe we’re not too far away.”
Forest’s other matches under his leadership include draws against Burnley and Real Betis, offering faint glimpses of progress ahead of their must-win clash with Newcastle.
