Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been warned that his players do not fully trust summer signing Milos Kerkez, following his underwhelming performances since joining from Bournemouth.
Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol believes that the squad’s hesitation to involve Kerkez in key phases of play is a worrying sign for the Hungarian international, who was signed for £40 million after impressing in the Premier League last season.
Kerkez was expected to add energy and defensive balance on the left side, but his time at Anfield has so far been inconsistent. Despite completing the full 90 minutes against Manchester United last weekend, he endured another difficult afternoon and was repeatedly exposed by Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo.
According to Nicol, Kerkez’s struggles have affected Liverpool’s rhythm in build-up play, with teammates often opting to bypass him. He also suggested that the 20-year-old needs time to settle but must quickly regain the confidence of his fellow players if he is to remain in Slot’s plans.
Liverpool fans had high hopes for Kerkez when he arrived from Bournemouth, and Arne Slot will be eager to see his young defender adapt to the team’s high-intensity style as the season progresses.
