Eberechi Eze scored a spectacular goal as Arsenal beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium to reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Arsenal sealed a 3-1 aggregate victory in the round-of-16 tie after producing a dominant display in front of their home fans.
Eze Breaks the Deadlock
The Premier League leaders controlled the early stages and created several chances, but Leverkusen goalkeeper Janis Blaswich kept the German side in the game with a series of important saves.
However, the breakthrough finally arrived in the 37th minute when Eze unleashed a stunning long-range strike from outside the penalty area to open his Champions League account and give Arsenal the lead.
Rice Seals the Win
Arsenal continued their dominance in the second half, and their pressure paid off just after the hour mark.
Midfielder Declan Rice doubled the advantage with a precise low finish, effectively ending Leverkusen’s hopes of mounting a comeback.
The Bundesliga side had managed a 1-1 draw in the first leg, which had ended Arsenal’s perfect record in the competition this season, but they struggled to threaten in London.
Arsenal Set Up Quarter-Final Clash
Despite criticism in recent months for their efficient rather than flamboyant playing style, Arsenal delivered an impressive performance to progress comfortably.
The victory sends them into the Champions League quarter-finals, where they will face Portuguese side Sporting CP.
