Atletico Madrid will be without forward Julian Alvarez for their upcoming Champions League clash at Liverpool as he continues to recover from the discomfort that forced him off during their last LaLiga match against Villarreal.
The 25-year-old Argentine World Cup winner, who has scored once in four games this season, was substituted in the second half of Atletico’s 2-0 home victory over Villarreal.
Alongside Alvarez, Thiago Almada, Jose Maria Gimenez, Alex Baena, and Johnny Cardoso (ankle sprain) were also unavailable for travel as part of Diego Simeone’s 22-man squad for the game at Anfield.
The absence of key players comes as a setback for Atletico as they prepare for a crucial Champions League fixture against the English side.
