Braves Power to Series-Clinching 12-1 Win Over Marlins

Ozzie Albies hits a home run for the Braves against the Marlins

Ozzie Albies homered for the third time in two games, and Jurickson Profar went deep twice as the visiting Atlanta Braves dominated the Miami Marlins 12-1. Michael Harris II and Matt Olson also homered as the Braves capitalized on 11 hits and 10 walks.

Starting pitcher Joey Wentz (5-4) earned the win, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 6 2/3 innings. Albies has now gone 5-for-10 with nine RBIs over the past two games, helping Atlanta win the final two contests of the three-game set. Profar added two hits, three walks, four runs, and two RBIs.

Rookie Jake Fraley, recently acquired from the Reds, went 3-for-5 and manned right field in his first start with Atlanta. Derek Hill drove in Miami’s lone run with a double in the fifth inning.

Marlins starter Ryan Gusto (7-7) took the loss, allowing nine runs on seven hits and five walks in just 3 2/3 innings. Gusto struggled from the start, giving up a leadoff homer to Profar on the third pitch of the game.

The Braves extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning when Profar walked and Olson hit a 426-foot homer to center, marking Olson’s 20th home run for the eighth consecutive non-COVID-affected season. On the next pitch, Gusto hit Ronald Acuna Jr., prompting both benches to clear and Braves manager Brian Snitker to be ejected, though no punches were thrown.

Atlanta continued their assault with a two-run single by Albies and an RBI single from Harris in the fourth inning, cementing the rout and the series-clinching win.
