Bruno Fernandes Rejects Saudi Move As Manchester United Ownership Twist Emerges

Bruno Fernandes during Manchester United match amid Saudi transfer rumours

Bruno Fernandes has no intention of leaving Manchester United for a move to Saudi Arabia, despite approaches from Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad last summer. Reports indicate the midfielder remains fully committed to Manchester United and is focused on continuing his role under manager Ruben Amorim.

Sources close to Fernandes told the BBC that the 31-year-old is not considering a move away from Old Trafford, dismissing speculation that he could leave after next year’s World Cup. His contract currently runs until 2027, with an additional one-year option included.

Fernandes’ Position on Future Transfer Speculation

It is understood that Bruno Fernandes would only consider joining clubs within Europe’s top leagues rather than moving to Saudi Arabia or leagues outside UEFA competition. The expectation is that Manchester United must return to Champions League qualification to retain players of Fernandes’ ambition.

The challenge remains significant. United finished 15th in the Premier League last season under Amorim and currently sit 10th with three wins, three defeats, and one draw. A shock Carabao Cup exit against Grimsby Town in August further increased pressure on the squad.

Despite this, Fernandes has become a central figure in Amorim’s plans and continues to be a key starter, which may influence his decision to stay rather than seek a fresh challenge abroad.

Ownership Rumours Spark Reaction

In a separate development, Saudi sports figure Turki Al-Sheikh made a cryptic post on X suggesting that Manchester United are in advanced talks to sell to a new investor.

The Glazer Family still hold the power to force a full sale through drag-along clauses, which allow majority owners to trigger a total transfer of shares. While there had been little public indication of such a move, Al-Sheikh’s statement came only hours after Sir Jim Ratcliffe gave an interview that made no mention of stepping aside.

His message read: The best news I heard today is that Manchester United is now in an advanced stage of completing a deal to sell to a new investor. I hope he’s better than the previous owners.

This has fuelled speculation that major change could arrive sooner than expected.
