UEFA has confirmed a major change to the Champions League final schedule, with matches set to begin three hours earlier starting from 2026.
The governinThe governing body announced that the new start time will be 18:00 CET (16:00 GMT) instead of the traditional 21:00 CET. This change is designed to help fans leave stadiums earlier, make public transport more accessible, and allow supporters to continue their celebrations beyond the stadium.
The 2025 final in Munich, where Paris Saint-Germain defeated Inter Milan 5-0, kicked off at 21:00 CET. Many fans left the stadium close to midnight after trophy celebrations, raising concerns about late travel schedules.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said:
“The new kickoff time will make it even more accessible, inclusive, and impactful for everyone involved. While 21:00 CET suits midweek games, an earlier kickoff on a Saturday final means fans can enjoy the rest of the evening with family and friends.”
Football Supporters Europe welcomed the decision, calling it a positive step for match-going fans. Executive Director Ronan Evain added that earlier kickoffs make day trips easier, reduce travel stress, and improve logistics.
The 2026 Champions League final will be staged at the Puskás Arena in Budapest.
