A senior figure at Chelsea FC has reportedly caused controversy after telling supporters there is no statistical link between football managers and team results.
Club director Danny Finkelstein allegedly made the remarks during a private meeting with fans in February, insisting that Chelsea are still on track to build one of the best teams in the world.
The comments surfaced after members of protest group NotAProjectCFC broke a confidentiality agreement and shared details of the discussion online following Chelsea’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint‑Germain.
Fans Challenge Chelsea’s Direction
According to the supporters, they raised concerns about the club’s current strategy and questioned whether the team is capable of competing seriously for major trophies such as the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
Fans argued that a lack of experienced leadership in the squad could continue to affect results unless changes are made.
“The discussion became heated,” the group said in their published account.
Finkelstein Defends Chelsea’s Project
During the exchange, Finkelstein reportedly responded that the club’s younger players will improve with time as they gain experience.
He insisted it was “obvious” that Chelsea are building a squad capable of becoming one of the best in world football.
Rosenior Calls for Patience
Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has also previously suggested that building a strong connection between a manager and the team takes time.
The situation highlights growing tensions between the club’s leadership and sections of the fanbase, particularly as supporters continue to demand clearer progress toward competing for major honours.
