Chelsea have entered the race to sign Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, joining Manchester United and Manchester City in pursuing the in-form Premier League attacker ahead of the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old Ghana international has been one of the standout performers this season, registering eight goals and three assists in 16 league matches, placing him among the Premier League’s top scorers. His explosive form has attracted widespread attention from England’s biggest clubs.
Semenyo is understood to have a £65 million release clause, which remains active until January 10, making the coming weeks crucial for any club hoping to secure his signature. That clause has prompted intense interest, with City and United already holding talks with the player’s representatives, while Chelsea have now made their own enquiries.
Despite Chelsea’s heavy investment in attacking options over the summer, the club see Semenyo as a potential difference-maker due to his direct goal threat and versatility across the frontline. He could provide competition on the left wing and cover centrally when required.
Liverpool and Tottenham have also been monitoring the situation, although reports suggest Semenyo has already turned down Spurs. Liverpool’s interest is complicated by their recent spending and uncertainty over whether they will commit major funds in January.
A factor that could work in Chelsea’s favour is Semenyo’s personal admiration for the club. The forward has previously spoken about growing up as a Chelsea fan and idolising Didier Drogba, even recalling watching the Blues’ 2012 Champions League final triumph while wearing a Chelsea shirt.
Bournemouth, currently mid-table, are keen to keep hold of their star man, but the looming expiry of the release clause means the Premier League heavyweights may soon force the Cherries’ hand.
With multiple elite clubs circling, Semenyo’s future is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched transfer sagas of the January window.
