Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has highlighted the area his team needs to improve after their 2-2 Premier League draw with Brentford on Saturday night.
Chelsea played out a draw against the Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium. Kevin Schade gave Brentford the lead in the first half, but Cole Palmer came off the bench to equalize for Chelsea.
Moises Caicedo then scored a powerful long-range strike to put Chelsea ahead late in the match. However, a late goal from Fabio Carvalho ensured both teams shared the points.
Maresca was unhappy with his side for conceding a late equalizer. He explained that Chelsea need to improve on “sending the game to sleep” by keeping possession and controlling the tempo when leading in the final stages of a match.
Speaking after the game, Maresca said:
“For sure in the moment that we scored the second goal we have to manage better. We scored in the 86th minute, and in that moment you need to give passes, you need to slow down, you need to send the game to sleep a little bit. It is something that we didn’t do and it’s something that we need to improve on and we need to learn.”
