Chelsea star Cole Palmer has been hit with another injury setback after fracturing his toe in a freak accident at home, manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Burnley, Maresca revealed that the midfielder injured his toe two days ago, ruling him out of at least the next three matches — including crucial fixtures against Burnley, Barcelona, and Arsenal.
The 23-year-old, who has already been out since September with a groin problem, had been expected to return to action this month before the unexpected setback. According to Maresca, Palmer stubbed his left toe on a door, resulting in a fracture.
Maresca said:
“He is not available for tomorrow, for sure. Barcelona, for sure. Arsenal, for sure. Unfortunately, he had an accident at home with his toe. It’s fractured. He won’t be back this week or next week.”
Despite the injury, Maresca noted that Palmer did not appear to be in severe discomfort when he saw him at the training ground, though toe injuries can be painful and limit mobility.
In Palmer’s absence, Chelsea have rotated Joao Pedro, Enzo Fernandez, and Estevao in the attacking role, but none have replicated his impact on the pitch. Maresca admitted the team is stronger with Palmer available but insisted they will continue adapting.
“The team prefers it when Cole is playing — I feel much better with him on the pitch. But when he is not, we need to find solutions,” he added.
Chelsea currently sit third in the Premier League as they enter the busy festive period, and Palmer’s extended absence is a major blow to their momentum.
