Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has pointed to the new Premier League ball as the reason he failed to stop Dominik Szoboszlai’s incredible free-kick, which gave Liverpool a 1-0 victory at Anfield on Sunday.
Szoboszlai’s Stunner Secures Liverpool Win
The Hungarian midfielder scored in the 83rd minute with a thunderous free-kick from over 30 yards out, leaving Raya diving too late. The strike ensured Liverpool maintained their 100% winning start to the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Raya Admits Struggles With New Ball
Speaking after the match, Raya explained that adapting to the new Puma-manufactured ball has been a challenge:
“I think it’s a hell of a strike. I remember the ball moving a lot and moving away from me. With the new balls, we still have to adapt. It’s different from the Nike ball we’ve played with for many years.”
The Spaniard added that the grip and movement of the ball are noticeably different, making it harder for goalkeepers. He expressed disappointment at conceding but promised to adjust quickly.

With the win, Liverpool sit top of the table, defending their Premier League crown in style. Arsenal, who have finished second in each of the last three seasons, continue their hunt for the league title, having been edged out twice by Manchester City and once by Liverpool.
