Maresca Reveals Only Problem With Nkunku at Chelsea

Christopher Nkunku during his time at Chelsea before AC Milan transfer

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed the only problem he had with Christopher Nkunku during the forward’s time at Stamford Bridge.

Nkunku recently completed a permanent move to AC Milan after struggling for game time at Chelsea. The French international was excluded from the Blues’ opening two Premier League matches this season before sealing his transfer.

The arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap further reduced Nkunku’s chances of breaking into Maresca’s attacking plans.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League win over Fulham, Maresca admitted that Nkunku’s only challenge at the club was competition with Cole Palmer, who currently occupies his preferred position.

“Christo is a fantastic professional, first of all. With us, he was very professional and trained very well,” Maresca said.

“The only problem with Christo has been that in his position there was another player like Cole, so it was difficult for him to get minutes. But at AC Milan, they can expect fantastic things from him because he is very professional.”

Nkunku is expected to play a key role for AC Milan in Serie A this season, as the Italian giants look to strengthen their attack.
