The Uzbekistan Football Association has officially announced that Italian football legend and 2006 Ballon d’Or winner Fabio Cannavaro has been appointed as the new head coach of the Uzbekistan National Team.
Cannavaro, a World Cup-winning captain with Italy in 2006 and one of the most respected defenders in football history, will lead Uzbekistan’s preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup to be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The Uzbekistan FA released an official statement confirming the appointment, expressing confidence that Cannavaro’s experience and tactical insight will elevate the national team’s performance on the global stage.
Cannavaro will be joined by an experienced backroom staff:
Eugenio Albarella – Assistant Coach, who has previously worked with the Japan national team, Juventus, Udinese, and Dinamo Zagreb.
Francesco Troise – Fitness Coach, with past experience at Benevento, Udinese, and Dinamo Zagreb.
Antonio Chimenti – Goalkeeper Coach, who has coached at Italy’s youth teams, Sampdoria, and SPAL.
This move marks an exciting new chapter for Uzbekistan as they aim to qualify and compete strongly in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Cannavaro’s arrival is expected to bring both discipline and world-class tactical leadership to the team.
