FIFA has issued a formal response after former United States President Donald Trump made a controversial statement threatening potential disruption to the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Trump, speaking during a public appearance, suggested that if his concerns were not acknowledged by governing bodies, there could be “serious consequences” affecting the tournament. His comments quickly circulated across global media, prompting calls for clarity from FIFA.

In an official statement, FIFA moved swiftly to cool tensions, reiterating that the World Cup will go ahead as planned and that the organisation “does not engage in political disputes.” They further emphasised their commitment to ensuring a safe, inclusive, and politically neutral tournament for all participating nations and fans.

“FIFA operates independently of political influence and remains focused on delivering a successful World Cup in 2026. Preparations continue in full coordination with host cities and international partners,” a spokesperson confirmed.

Trump’s remarks have sparked debate in the US, with some accusing him of attempting to leverage the tournament for political gain ahead of the election period. Others believe his comments reflect concerns over infrastructure and immigration policies tied to the hosting arrangements.

Despite the controversy, FIFA insists there is no threat to the tournament schedule or venue plans, and all host cities — including New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Toronto — continue preparations without disruption.
