Haller Joins Utrecht: Dortmund Star Returns

Haller joins Utrecht - Borussia Dortmund striker

Haller joins Utrecht in a permanent move from Borussia Dortmund, marking the Ivory Coast striker’s return to the Dutch club where he began his early career. After several months on loan, Haller joins Utrecht permanently, completing a memorable comeback.

The 31-year-old forward had been on loan at Utrecht since the start of the year, ending a challenging but inspiring spell at Dortmund that saw him recover from cancer and return to professional football.

Haller was diagnosed with testicular cancer shortly after joining Borussia Dortmund from Ajax Amsterdam. He underwent two surgeries and chemotherapy before making a comeback to action. Over his tenure at Dortmund, Haller played 33 Bundesliga matches and scored nine goals.

“Sebastien has written a special story here. He battled his cancer with impressive strength,” said Dortmund sports director Sebastian Kehl. “Now he is returning to FC Utrecht – a club that means a lot to him and for which he has played regularly in recent months. We wish Sebastien all the best for the future and, above all, good health.”

Haller previously played for Utrecht early in his career from 2015 to 2017, making his return to the Dutch club a homecoming of sorts.

Fans are excited as Haller joins Utrecht, bringing experience and talent back to the squad.
