India Beat Pakistan to Retain Asia Cup Title

India’s Tilak Varma plays a shot during his unbeaten 69 in the Asia Cup final against Pakistan

India continued their dominance over arch-rivals Pakistan with a thrilling five-wicket victory in the Asia Cup final on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, sealing their ninth title in style.

The win capped off an unbeaten run for the reigning champions, who defeated Pakistan three times in this year’s tournament.

Pakistan’s Collapse

Pakistan started brightly after being put into bat, with openers Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman (46) combining for an 84-run stand. But what looked like a strong platform quickly unraveled as Pakistan lost their last nine wickets for just 33 runs.

India’s left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav led the demolition with figures of 4-30, while Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, and Jasprit Bumrah also chipped in with key wickets. Pakistan were bowled out for 146 with five balls to spare.

India’s Nervy Chase

India’s reply got off to a shaky start, losing in-form opener Abhishek Sharma and captain Suryakumar Yadav in the opening 10 deliveries. Shubman Gill also departed early, leaving India reeling at 20-3.

However, Tilak Varma held his nerve with an unbeaten 69, while Sanju Samson (24) and Shivam Dube (33) provided crucial support. Despite the pressure, India reached the target with two balls remaining, thanks to Varma’s calm finish that included a decisive six off Haris Rauf in the final over.

What They Said

“Pretty amazing. The whole tournament unbeaten — it’s incredible to be in this position,” said India vice-captain Shubman Gill.

Reflecting on the tense chase, Gill added: “The target was not much but important to soak in the pressure. Losing three wickets early is never easy, but the partnerships made the difference.”

Key Takeaway

India’s resilience and composure under pressure once again proved decisive, as they not only lifted their ninth Asia Cup but also reaffirmed their status as Asia’s cricketing powerhouse. For Pakistan, the final will be remembered as a golden chance lost after a dramatic batting collapse.
