January Transfer News: Fullkrug Leaves West Ham, Chelsea Sack Maresca, Man City Eye Semenyo

January transfer window updates featuring Chelsea, Manchester City and West Ham deals

The January transfer window is officially open, and the first major moves of the month are already taking shape across Europe.

West Ham have confirmed the departure of striker Niclas Fullkrug, who has joined AC Milan on loan until the end of the season. The deal includes an option for the Italian giants to make the move permanent. Fullkrug struggled for form at the London Stadium, scoring just three goals in 29 appearances since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2024.

Chelsea have also made headlines after officially parting ways with manager Enzo Maresca. The club confirmed the decision on New Year’s Day following a complete breakdown in relations. Liam Rosenior, currently in charge of sister club Strasbourg, is widely reported as the leading candidate to take over at Stamford Bridge, with several other high-profile names also linked.

Manchester City are meanwhile closing in on a £65 million deal to sign Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo. The Ghana international has reportedly agreed personal terms with City, although Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has confirmed that Semenyo will still feature in their upcoming Premier League fixture against Arsenal.

Elsewhere, Brennan Johnson is edging closer to a move away from Tottenham. The winger is undergoing a medical ahead of a £33.5 million transfer to Crystal Palace, with personal terms already agreed between the clubs.

Several deals have already been completed across the Premier League and Europe. Bournemouth have signed former Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster on a free transfer, while Spurs defender Kota Takai has joined Borussia Monchengladbach on loan after failing to make a first-team appearance this season.

In Serie A, Napoli are confident of making Rasmus Hojlund’s loan move permanent following his impressive form under Antonio Conte. Sporting director Giovanni Manna has described the deal as a “formality” if the club qualifies for the Champions League.

Other notable moves include Christian Benteke joining Al Wahda in the UAE Pro League, Celtic signing Julian Araujo on loan from Bournemouth, and Aston Villa completing the signing of Brazilian winger Alysson from Gremio.

With the transfer window now open, clubs across Europe are expected to accelerate negotiations in the coming days as managers look to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season.
