Liverpool have reportedly agreed a British record transfer fee of £130 million to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, according to reports from Sky Sports News and The Athletic.
Record-Breaking Transfer
The Swedish striker is set to join Liverpool on a long-term contract after protracted negotiations dominated the summer transfer window.
Liverpool had earlier seen a £110m bid rejected in August, but finally reached an agreement with Newcastle just hours before the transfer window deadline.
If completed, the deal will surpass the previous British transfer record.
Isak’s Impact at Newcastle
Isak, 25, enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 season, scoring 23 Premier League goals to guide Newcastle back into the Champions League with a fifth-placed finish.
He also scored in the League Cup final against Liverpool, helping Newcastle lift their first domestic trophy in 70 years.
However, the striker’s relationship with Newcastle deteriorated this summer. He skipped the club’s pre-season tour, trained separately, and accused the club of breaking promises in a public statement, calling the situation “in the best interests of everyone” for him to leave.
What It Means for Liverpool
Isak’s arrival would give Liverpool a world-class striker to bolster their attack as they defend their Premier League title. Manager Ruben Amorim is expected to integrate the Swede quickly into his system.
Neither Liverpool nor Newcastle have officially commented on the deal as of Monday morning.
