Liverpool Confirm Salah and Four Senior Players Will Miss Southampton Carabao Cup Tie

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Mohamed Salah and four other senior players will not feature in the Carabao Cup third round match against Southampton, scheduled for midweek.

The Reds have started the Premier League season in perfect form, winning all five of their opening fixtures. Their attacking prowess has been impressive, with Salah, Darwin Núñez, and Luis Díaz leading the line and helping Liverpool top the early-season table.

Slot explained that the decision to rest his key players is part of a careful squad management strategy. With a congested schedule of Premier League, Champions League, and domestic cup fixtures ahead, he wants to maintain player fitness and reduce the risk of injuries.

“This is a busy period, and we have to rotate our squad to keep everyone fresh,” Slot said. “Mohamed Salah and a few others will sit out against Southampton, but this gives an opportunity for other players to step up and make an impact.”

Liverpool will rely on fringe players and academy prospects to fill the gaps in the squad for this Carabao Cup tie. Slot emphasized the importance of giving younger players a chance to gain experience in competitive matches, which also helps the team maintain depth throughout the season.

Despite resting key players, Liverpool remain favorites against Southampton. The Reds have scored freely in the Premier League, and the manager expects the squad to adapt quickly to the absence of senior stars.
