Liverpool coach Slot coy on Isak transfer as deadline looms

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has remained tight-lipped about Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak’s future as the Premier League transfer window nears its September 1 deadline.

Slot spoke during a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s home clash against Arsenal, addressing transfer activity and rumors linking the club to Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade.

“Newcastle signed, if it’s true, a new number nine. That’s very nice for Eddie (Howe), because Anthony Gordon is suspended and Isak has not been training with the team much,” Slot said. “As always, we try to sign players that can help, but there is no reason to complain after the first two games. If we can strengthen, we will, if it is the right money and the right player. But there are only three or four days left. So let’s see if we do something.”

Earlier this month, Liverpool reportedly made a £110 million ($148.34 million) bid for Isak.

Slot also highlighted the importance of winning early points, noting that while teams can recover later in the season, dropping points early could hurt. He confirmed that Conor Bradley and Alexis Mac Allister have returned to training, and the squad avoided injuries in their 3-2 win over Newcastle.

The Dutch coach praised new signing Hugo Ekitike, who has scored three goals in three games across all competitions since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt. “He has made a big impact on our attacking, not just scoring goals but starting attacks,” Slot said. “He needs to improve his match fitness, which is normal as he adjusts to a different league and playing style.”
