Harry Maguire has confirmed that Manchester United rejected several transfer approaches for him this summer, despite his contract running into its final year.

The England international’s deal was automatically extended earlier this year when United activated a one-year clause, keeping him at Old Trafford until the end of the current season.

Speaking in an interview with former United legend Rio Ferdinand, Maguire revealed that the club made it clear he was not available for transfer:

“Last year the clause was in their hands, so there was no option for me. They activated it and it got extended.

This year, I’m up at the end of the season. I’m pretty sure the club has made it clear I can’t leave, even though clubs enquired about me. Over the next few months, we’ll have to sit down and have a conversation about whether they want to extend or not. Otherwise, the transfer window will open again in January.”

Maguire also admitted that while he has personal thoughts about his career, he still values playing for United:

“It’s an amazing club to play for, and you’d be silly to want to leave it too soon. A couple of clubs made enquiries, but they got a quick response.

We’re in a good place as a club. With Jason Wilcox (director of football) and the manager, I feel things are moving in the right direction.”

The 31-year-old centre-back, who joined Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019, now faces a crucial few months as his long-term future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.
