Man Utd 4–2 Brighton: Amorim’s Reds Survive Late Scare to Climb Up to Fourth

Manchester United made it three wins in a row under Ruben Amorim, beating Brighton 4–2 in a thrilling clash at Old Trafford — but not without a late scare.

Goals from Matheus Cunha, Casemiro, and a Bryan Mbeumo brace sealed the victory, pushing United up to fourth in the Premier League table and earning a standing ovation from co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Cunha Opens His Account in Style

The £62.5m summer signing from Wolves announced himself in spectacular fashion, curling a stunning strike into the bottom corner for his first goal in United colours.

Soon after, Casemiro doubled the lead when his shot took a wicked deflection off Brighton’s Yasin Ayari, wrong-footing goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. The Brazilian’s performance earned him applause from Ratcliffe, who had previously questioned his long-term role at the club.

Mbeumo Doubles Up as United Dominate

United continued their dominance after the break. Bryan Mbeumo, another of Amorim’s summer recruits, latched onto a clever pass from Benjamin Sesko and calmly made it 3–0.

However, the comfort didn’t last long. Substitutions by Amorim unsettled United’s rhythm, and Brighton seized the momentum. Danny Welbeck pulled one back with a fine free-kick against his former club before Charalampos Kostoulas headed in from a corner to make it 3–2 in added time.

Mbeumo Seals It at the Death

Just as United fans began to fear a repeat of old collapses, Mbeumo struck again deep into stoppage time. Fernandes cleverly dummied a pass from Ayden Heaven, leaving the Cameroonian forward free to fire home and end Brighton’s hopes of a comeback.
