Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has been voted the worst signing of the summer transfer window by football agents, according to a survey by The Athletic.
Sesko, 22, joined United from RB Leipzig in August for £74m, despite manager Ruben Amorim reportedly preferring a deal for Ollie Watkins. The Slovenia international struggled initially, failing to score in his first six appearances across all competitions, which led to widespread criticism.
Although Sesko has started to find form recently, scoring twice in United’s last two Premier League matches, agents still rated him the worst summer signing. Of the 20 agents surveyed, Sesko received six votes—the most of any player and double that of second-place James Trafford of Manchester City.
Comments from agents highlighted concerns over the fee and timing:
- “They were pressurised into making that signing,” one said.
- “A lot of money for not much of a pedigree,” added another.
- “Way too much money and much too soon,” opined a third.
United fans will be hoping Sesko can maintain his upward trajectory and justify the hefty investment.
