Manchester United ‘Not Ready for Europe,’ Says Ruben Amorim

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says his team is not ready for Europe and needs time to build a strong foundation before returning to the Champions League.

United had a tough 2024/25 season, finishing 15th in the Premier League. They also missed out on a Champions League spot after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur in May.

Speaking before United’s Carabao Cup second-round match against League Two side Grimsby Town, Amorim said the team is still rebuilding.

“I think we were not prepared to play in Europe. That is my feeling. To have strong games in the Champions League and then play Premier League, we need time to develop as a team. The players need to fight for their places, and then everything can change,” Amorim told reporters.

Slow Start to the Season

United’s struggles have continued. They lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal on the opening day and drew 1-1 with Fulham last weekend.

Amorim said the team’s defensive mindset cost them against Fulham.

“The games are very competitive. We need time to build the base and, in the future, move forward. Eventually, Europe will become important for everyone to play games,” he added.

Injury Update: Mazraoui Nears Return

Amorim gave an update on Noussair Mazraoui, who has been out since pre-season.

“Maybe he will return next week. We are finishing some drills with him to make sure he doesn’t have another problem,” Amorim said.

Fans will hope United can win against Grimsby to build momentum in what promises to be another challenging season.

Can Amorim turn things around quickly, or are United facing another long rebuilding year?
