BARCELONA have agreed to buy Marcus Rashford in a permanent transfer worth £26million, ending Manchester United’s hopes of keeping the forward.
The Manchester United forward, 28, joined the LaLiga giants on an initial loan last summer after falling out of favour at Old Trafford. Now, according to Spanish outlet SPORT, the Catalans are committed to activating the release clause in his loan agreement for a Marcus Rashford permanent transfer.
Barcelona chiefs and Rashford’s agents have been in discussions over the Marcus Rashford permanent transfer, which would see the England international sign a three-year contract at the Camp Nou.
Wage Adjustment Required for Rashford Barcelona Deal
Rashford is understood to be happy with the move despite needing to lower his salary from £315,000-per-week to approximately £190,000-per-week to fit into Barcelona’s strict wage structure. The Catalan club have been forced to trim their payroll in recent seasons to comply with LaLiga’s financial fair play regulations, making this Marcus Rashford permanent transfer financially viable.
United Stand Firm on Rashford Transfer Fee
The update comes after reports that Barcelona attempted to negotiate a lower fee with Manchester United for the Marcus Rashford permanent transfer. However, the Red Devils rejected the approach, believing the £26million release clause already represents reasonable value.
A United source told The Sun: “The club always believed £26m was fair. Barcelona tried to negotiate down but United held firm.”
Impressive Form in Spain
Rashford has convinced Barcelona of his worth through his performances this season, bagging 10 goals and 13 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.
His contributions have helped fire Barcelona to the top of LaLiga, where they currently hold a one-point lead over fierce rivals Real Madrid.
Title in Sight for Rashford
The United academy graduate has never won a league title in his career, despite lifting the FA Cup, two League Cups and the Europa League during his time in Manchester.
That could change this season, with Barcelona firmly in the title race as Rashford seeks to add the first league championship of his career following his Marcus Rashford permanent transfer to Spain.
Champions League Return
Rashford will return to England on March 10 when Barcelona face Newcastle in the Champions League round of 16 at St James’ Park. He made his mark against the Magpies earlier in the competition, scoring a brace in a 2-1 away win during the league phase.
