Martin Zubimendi Explains Why He Rejected Real Madrid And Liverpool To Join Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi has revealed why he turned down interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool before completing his £60 million move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Spanish international joined Arsenal during the summer transfer window and has made an instant impact, featuring in all eight of the club’s Premier League games so far this season. His performances have helped Mikel Arteta’s side climb to the top of the table.

Zubimendi, 26, came close to signing for Liverpool in 2024 but opted to stay at his boyhood club Real Sociedad for one more season. When Real Madrid later approached him last summer, he had already made up his mind to join Arsenal after productive discussions with Arteta.

The midfielder explained that his decision was based on the project and the trust shown by the Arsenal manager, who convinced him that his playing style and work ethic would fit perfectly in the Premier League.

Zubimendi’s composure, vision, and tactical intelligence have already made him a fan favourite at the Emirates, and he looks set to play a key role in Arsenal’s title push this season.
