Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has declined to be drawn into the controversy surrounding club co owner Jim Ratcliffe, choosing instead to highlight the values and global identity of the Old Trafford club.
Ratcliffe recently apologised after facing criticism for comments about immigration that sparked political backlash, including a response from UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. However, Carrick made it clear that his focus remains strictly on football.
“It is not my place to add to that. Enough has been said in that regard,” Carrick told reporters ahead of United’s Premier League trip to Everton.
Pride in United’s Culture
Instead of engaging in the debate, Carrick underlined Manchester United’s long standing commitment to equality, diversity and respect.
“I have been around this club for many years and we always make a huge impact globally,” he said. “We are really proud of the environment and culture we have got at the club.”
Carrick, who has served United as a player, coach and now manager, stressed the responsibility that comes with representing one of the world’s most recognised football institutions.
“Equality, diversity and respect for each other is something we look to carry through every day. I have travelled the world and know what this club means to an awful lot of people,” he added.
Squad Unity Remains Strong
When asked whether the off field controversy had affected the dressing room, Carrick dismissed any suggestion of division within the squad.
“We have a really strong group, whether that is the players or the staff. We are in constant communication. We are here to support each other and help each other in whatever way we can,” he said.
United’s players, according to Carrick, have benefited from a short break and returned refreshed ahead of the next fixture.
“The boys have been in good spirits this week. We have had some time off which has been important for a refresh and a bit of a deep breath.”
Injury Updates and League Position
Carrick confirmed that midfielder Mason Mount is edging closer to a return from injury, while defender Matthijs de Ligt is still unavailable.
Manchester United currently sit fourth in the Premier League table with 45 points from 26 matches, as they continue their push for a strong finish to the season.
For Carrick, the message is clear. The focus remains on performance, unity and upholding the values that have long defined Manchester United.
