Newcastle Struggling to Adjust Without Alexander Isak, Says Howe

Alexander Isak warms up as a substitute during a Premier League match between Liverpool and Everton, September 20, 2025

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has admitted his team is still adapting to life without striker Alexander Isak, following the player’s transfer to Liverpool.

The Magpies’ attack has struggled to click into gear, with their goalless draw at Bournemouth marking the third consecutive 0-0 Premier League away game. Newcastle have scored only three goals in five matches and sit 13th with six points.

Howe Calls for Patience

Howe acknowledged the unusual start in attack but urged patience:

“Its three 0-0s away from home for us, which is really uncommon with our attacking style. I think just naturally we’re going to be a different team attacking-wise this year without Alex. I’m hopeful we’re evolving to a different team, hopefully a better team, but it may take a bit of time.”

Nick Woltemade Steps Up

Newcastle are counting on club-record signing Nick Woltemade to lead the attack. Howe praised the German forward:

“I thought Nick played really well today. I thought he was very effective with his footwork and his link play. But we just need to know and get used to him and his style more and get more runners off him because he’s very good in that respect.”

Upcoming Fixture

Newcastle will host Bradford City in the League Cup second round on Wednesday, aiming to build momentum and integrate their new attacking options.
