Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United remains uncertain as the summer transfer window approaches its end. The Magpies are reportedly making progress toward signing German forward Nick Woltemade, manager Eddie Howe confirmed on Friday.
Isak, who has yet to play this season due to a standoff with the club, was the subject of a £110 million ($148.60 million) bid from Liverpool earlier this month, which Newcastle reportedly rejected. Howe described the situation as a “lose-lose” scenario and admitted he has no clarity on the striker’s future ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Leeds United.
“It’s difficult for me to give you any sort of clarity on the future. I’ve said before, I don’t know what the future holds because I’m not involved with it myself,” Howe told reporters.
Nick Woltemade: Newcastle’s Transfer Target
Among Newcastle’s potential signings is Nick Woltemade, recently capped by Germany, who scored 17 goals for VfB Stuttgart in all competitions last season. Howe noted that Woltemade may not be ready to play against Leeds, but the club is optimistic about completing the deal soon.
“Positive signs. Things are moving and developing in a good way at the moment. Until it’s done I can’t confirm anything, but fingers crossed,” Howe said.
Injury and Suspension Updates
On the injury front, Howe confirmed that Joelinton will return after the international break, while Sandro Tonali faces a late fitness test. Meanwhile, Anthony Gordon remains suspended following a red card in Newcastle’s 3-2 defeat to Liverpool.
