Yoane Wissa Sidelined for Two More Weeks

Newcastle United have been dealt a setback as Yoane Wissa faces a further two-week delay before making his debut. The £55m striker, who arrived from Brentford on deadline day, suffered a knee injury while playing for DR Congo last month and has yet to train with the Magpies.

Manager Eddie Howe confirmed that Wissa’s recovery will now target the November 2 clash against West Ham. “Yoane saw a specialist again yesterday for a check-up on his knee. We probably think now it’ll be eight weeks rather than six. No recurrence or problem, just slightly longer,” Howe said.

Impact on Newcastle’s Attack

The delay leaves fellow new signing Nick Woltemade to carry the goalscoring load, competing with Will Osula for attacking positions. Howe emphasized the healthy competition within the squad while noting that Wissa will bring a different dynamic once fit.

International Duties Loom

DR Congo currently has no fixtures during the upcoming November international break, but Wissa is expected to be involved in the Africa Cup of Nations the following month in Morocco. Newcastle will want him fully fit before he departs for international duty.

Manager Comments on Wissa’s Return

Howe added: “Yoane is still trying to get fit and feel good within his body. When he’s ready, he’ll be thinking, like all players, that he wants to earn his position. From Nick’s side, there’s competition from other squad members, but Yoane will add a different dynamic once he’s back.”
