OBI GONE: Three Man Utd Youngsters Set for January Loans as Chido Obi Leads the List

Promising Manchester United striker Chido Obi is among three youngsters expected to leave Old Trafford on loan in the January transfer window.

United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted that, in hindsight, it was “too soon” for Obi to feature in eight first-team matches last season, shortly after the teenager arrived from Arsenal’s academy in November 2024. At the time, the buzz around the newly turned 17-year-old included talk of him potentially becoming the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer.

However, following the summer arrival of Benjamin Sesko, Amorim opted to place Obi with the Under-21s this season to refine other aspects of his game beyond scoring. The young forward has responded well, netting five goals in 13 appearances while showing significant improvement in his hold-up play and link-up movement.

With his development progressing, United are now open to sending Obi out on loan in January to secure regular first-team minutes, likely in the EFL or National League.

Fellow academy prospect Ayden Heaven is also being considered for a loan move, having caught Amorim’s eye with his maturity and performances during first-team training sessions.

As the January window approaches, United’s focus appears to be on ensuring their brightest prospects gain valuable senior experience — with Chido Obi leading the group of rising talents preparing for temporary exits.
